Thank you for your interest in contributing to The Spatial Times! We welcome diverse perspectives, experiences, and insights that align with our mission of empowering communities through geospatial technology.

What You Can Submit

🔹 Feature Articles – Case studies, research insights, or technical pieces on GIS, remote sensing, and mapping.
🔹 Community Stories – Highlighting local mapping projects, citizen science initiatives, or grassroots geospatial work.
🔹 Opinion & Thought Leadership – Perspectives on the future of geospatial technology, open data, and sustainable development.
🔹 Interviews & Profiles – Spotlights on innovators, change-makers, and professionals in the field.
🔹 Geospatial Tips & Tutorials – Sharing knowledge, workflows, or innovative ways to use geospatial tools.

Submission Guidelines

✅ Articles should be concise and engaging, typically between 500 – 1,500 words.
âś… Include relevant images, maps, or graphics to enhance your submission.
✅ Keep your content clear, non-academic, and reader-friendly—this is not a formal journal.
âś… Cite any sources or data used in your article to maintain credibility.
âś… We encourage submissions in English (but will explore multilingual options in the future).

As a publisher, we try not to be too formal and please remember we’re not a journal publication. Despite this, we are still required by international law to provide you with the following information which we recommend you to read and understand before making a submission. 

Thank you once again for your interest in contributing to The Spatial Times Newsletter! To ensure that we maintain high-quality, engaging, and impactful content, we have established the following editorial and publishing guidelines. Please review them before submitting your article.

1. General Guidelines

  • We welcome original, engaging, and insightful content related to geospatial technologies, open data, mapping, and their impact on communities.
  • Articles should be clear, reader-friendly, and non-academic—this is not a research journal. Write in a style that is accessible to a global audience.
  • Submissions must be between 500 – 1,500 words and provide meaningful insights, case studies, experiences, or thought leadership.
  • Content should align with GeoConnect’s mission of promoting geospatial education, innovation, and community-driven development.

2. Content Expectations

✅ Relevance – Articles should relate to geospatial topics such as GIS, remote sensing, open mapping, community-driven projects, and emerging trends in spatial data.
✅ Engagement – Write in an engaging, informative, and conversational tone. Avoid overly technical jargon unless necessary (and define it when used).
✅ Accuracy & Credibility – If your article includes facts, statistics, or case studies, ensure that they are accurate and properly cited (where applicable).
✅ Images & Media – Submissions may include high-quality images, maps, or graphics (PNG, JPG, or PDF format). Ensure you have the rights to use them.
✅ Inclusivity – We encourage diverse perspectives and stories from around the world.

3. Editorial Review Process

  • All submissions undergo a light editorial review to check for clarity, readability, factual accuracy, and adherence to these guidelines.
  • We may suggest minor edits for grammar, structure, or content flow while maintaining the author’s original voice.
  • If substantial revisions are needed, we will return the article to the author with suggestions for improvement.
  • The editorial team reserves the right to decline submissions that do not meet our quality standards or align with our mission.

4. Submission and Publishing Process

  1. Submit your article via Google Form link or email at editor[at]geo-connect.org.
  2. The editorial team will review your submission within 14 days and provide feedback (if needed).
  3. Upon approval, your article will be scheduled for publication in an upcoming edition of The Spatial Times Newsletter.
  4. Once published, you will receive a confirmation email and a shareable link to your published article.

5. Copyright & Republishing

  • Authors retain full rights to their work and are free to republish it elsewhere after it appears in The Spatial Times Newsletter.
  • If republishing, we kindly request attribution to GeoConnect and The Spatial Times Newsletter as the original publication.
  • By submitting, you grant GeoConnect the non-exclusive right to edit, format, and distribute your content.

6. Community Standards

To maintain a respectful and professional environment, we do not accept content that:
❌ Contains hate speech, discrimination, or offensive material.
❌ Includes plagiarized or misleading information.
❌ Is purely promotional (e.g., sales pitches or advertisements).
